What makes CONCERN different than other EAPs?
We are a “true” EAP, delivering short-term, problem-focused employee assistance programs. CONCERN is a close-knit organization with a clear focus on excellence, providing quick and easy access to low-cost, high-value services. This singular concentration allows much greater flexibility than managed behavioral health care models that require preauthorization to services and other restrictive practices. This is our only line of business, so we strive to treat every customer as if they were our only customer.
Why would I recommend CONCERN to my clients?
We are committed to helping employers achieve their workplace health and productivity goals, aligning our services with their HR business objectives. By delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction, we help you achieve the highest rate of customer retention for your book of business.
How are services delivered?
We deliver services nationwide through a distributed network of licensed clinical providers, work/life service consultants, and professional corporate trainers that we have developed over nearly 30 years. Clinical counseling takes place in the privacy of the provider’s office in close proximity to the work or home location of the plan member. Our work/life resources and referrals are delivered through a combination of phone, email and person-to-person consultations. Our trainings are delivered either onsite or via webinars, as requested by the employer group.
What about CONCERN’s provider network?
Our national provider network consists of highly skilled, seasoned, licensed clinicians that deliver short-term, problem-focused counseling. We seek providers with a minimum of five years of post-licensure (LCSW, PhD, MFT) experience. However, most have at least ten years of experience in private practice.
Our providers have a broad range of EAP skills and clinical specializations to meet our plan members’ needs. These specializations include substance and alcohol abuse, crisis support, counseling in languages other than English, and many other skills that address the broad range of EAP issues.
CONCERN's counselors live and work in the same communities as our plan members. This ensures optimal working knowledge of available and appropriate resources that are an important part of helping people solve their personal problems.
What is a Knox-Keene license and why is it important?
California is a highly regulated state for health care service delivery, requiring a specialized license for EAPs that deliver prepaid counseling (more than 3 sessions within any six-month period). The state’s Department of Managed Health Care is the watchdog agency responsible for protecting the rights of enrollees by ensuring that EAPs are fiscally solvent, well-managed and easily accessible to all plan members living in California.
The primary benefit to employer groups that contract with a Knox-Keene licensed EAP is risk mitigation, always a good business practice. There is full transparency and accountability with an EAP plan that is rigorously audited by a state regulatory agency.
How do I know if an EAP is Knox-Keene licensed for California?
It’s easy to get a list of carriers that are Knox-Keene licensed as a specialty health care plan for counseling. Just go to the Department of Managed Health Care’s website to view currently licensed plans:
