  SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Seventy percent of drug users are employed. Ten million employed people are drug users (EAPA Online 2002). Numerous studies suggest a significant relationship between poor work performance and substance abuse. Absenteeism has been found to be 3 to 8 times greater among employees with alcohol and drug related problems.

How CONCERN can help

CONCERN recognizes the impact of substance abuse on the employee and the employer. That is why we provide intervention, counseling, referral, and case management. Our counselors follow specific clinical protocols based on the criteria developed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Ten EAP sessions are provided at no additional cost to the client or employeer.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse Relapse Prevention

CONCERN counselors develop a relapse prevention plan with clients to ensure successful recovery. As a general rule, counselors stay in contact with clients over a period of a year. Written protocols are used to guide follow-up on all substance abuse cases.

Family members are educated about substance abuse and involved in the recovery process.

The CONCERN Counselor can facilitate a return to work meeting with the client, supervisor, and human resources if appropriate.

CONCERN is committed to relapse prevention and supports employees, their families and supervisors on an ongoing basis to prevent a recurrence of the problem. The Clinical Managers monitor these clients and are available to consult with their manager as needed.

Training for Employees, Supervisors and Managers

Work-related problems are common among employees who suffer from alcohol and drug abuse. Trainings for your supervisors and managers are designed to assist them in motivating employees to seek help with personal and job performance problems. CONCERN offers the following trainings to employees and managers:
